SCOPE OF THE FIRM'S PRACTICE:  The Firm has a general trial and litigation practice in the areas of negligence, insurance, premises liability, products liability, worker’s compensation defense, probate law and probate and estate planning law.  We handle a wide variety of cases, but insurance defense litigation is the backbone to who we are and defense litigation continues to be our forte. The Firm was founded by Richard W. Yarling in 1963.  He had been practicing insurance defense law with the firm of Smith and Yarling since 1949.

 The insurance defense area of law includes defense of insureds in automobile, homeowners, commercial and products liability cases.  In addition, we are engaged in representation of insurers in cases involving direct actions against the insurers, coverage opinions and/or disputes (declaratory judgment process), bad faith allegations, and subrogation.  Further, we assist our insurance clients with coverage issues pled through the Court by way of the declaratory judgment process.  We also represent clients in defense of worker’s compensation injury claims and in the area of probate and estate planning law. 

 The Firm's goal is to continue to provide high quality legal services to accommodate the evolving needs of its clientele as a result of legislation, claims, internal guidelines, and the usual and customary changes in the way they conduct business.  We strive to maintain our high quality of legal services provided to clients at competitively low prices to provide value to our client’s bottom line.  As such, we utilize different forms of billing structures to meet each client’s requirements and needs.
